Now Adding Current Reading...

Most of you know I have to travel for work - I love to bring along my favorite smaller knitting project - of course you must have multiple knitting projects going of various sizes...you always need a small project like socks for the plane - in the car you can bring slightly larger projects and then for home, larger needle sized projects in case you need a break from #1 sock needles!

But I also need a current book on the plane - I can't knit the entire time. I just finished Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See and loved it so much I had to get another of her books - I was so lucky to find it in the snack/magazine/misc stuff store at the LA airport this morning and I'm totally engrossed in her book, Peony in Love. These books are about life of women in China back in the 1600s and 1700s - a time when girls feet were bound at age 6 and the focus for a mother was on her husband, giving birth to sons, and how to make her daughters the most marriageable - facinating, sad, interesting study of the mother-daughter relationship.

On the Needles:
1. I can't tell you because this one is a Christmas gift
2. Hats and mittens for Emily - and on deck is a set for Hilary
3. Basic scarf out of gorgeous soft multicolored yarn I bought in Vancouver but it was made in Nova Scotia (I like to remember that I'm part Canadian - that sounds funny)
4. I ripped out my Malabrigo Einstein sweater - this yarn is too lofty to drap correctly in the style of the Einstein sweater so I'm making it into a winter wrap - great for traveling as it is cozy but looks business-y for work.
5. socks - also a gift so I won't give details but I bet you guessed one item on the list would be socks, at least!!

I finished some other items that I can now share - I made some gorgeous slippers for Chelle for her birthday - they turned out so nice, I almost kept them - Kidding!! I had her in mind from the start, I love that because then I think about the person I'm giving the item to the entire time I am knitting it! It may sound conceited but you should feel special if I knit you something for a gift = "strangers" or friends of friends, etc. always ask me if I'll knit them a felted purse, pair of socks or other items and my reply is "I only knit for people I love! and I don't love your friend/coworker/neighbor, etc!"
Slippers, before felting and after - I love seeing them side by side...
